Kheema (fried ground meat)

Standard

      Kheema is a popular dish in UAE with an Indian origin. Served mainly as an evening meal with fresh paratha or chapati.

  • 450 g ground beef 
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves garlic 
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 1 chopped tomato
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste 
  • spices to taste:  1/2 teaspoon cumin, 1/4 teaspoon chilli powder, 1/2 tsp mixed Arabic spices – bezar, 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp cardamom
  • salt to taste 
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup frozen peas
  • juice of a lime
  • 1/2 bunch fresh corriander 
  1. Fry onions and garlic in oil until it changed color. Add meat and brown. Add all spices and fry for two min more.
  2. Add tomatoes and tomato paste, stir for a min. 
  3. Add water, turn heat to low and cover. Cook until all water is absorbed and the mixture quite dry. 
  4. Add peas and chopped coriander. Simmer for few min more.
  5. Squeeze lemon juice over before serving. Serve hot.
